ASAF could in 2020 celebrate its 30 years anniversary in pursuing its purpose to contribute to public and charitable causes, especially organizations without relevant public funding. The foundation was established by the Norwegian businessman and art collector Christen Sveaas and named after his grandfather Consul Anders Sveaas, the founder of AS Kistefos Træsliberi.

Consul Anders Sveaas (1840-1917), Was a typical entrepreneur and a visionary with a strong business sense. He acquired the rights to the waterfall, and the land to build the factory buildings on, and in 1889 founded A/S Kistefos Træsliberi at Jevnaker, Norway. The mill produced wood pulp. Production continued up until 1955. Wood pulp was an important basic product in the manufacture of cheaper paper products. Today the old industrial facilities of the mill are still to be seen at the Kistefos Museum.
